Wisconsin and Nugget

After not taking the Princeton, NJ job, I was offered a job in the Southern Illinois University Testing Department located in Carbondale, IL. They had a large well oiled Testing Center where I learned how to properly run a center. My Boss decided that I should attend a Conference in TX to learn more. While I was there, he asked if I would mind going to a meeting in his place, in case anyone wanted to interview for a job opening at our Testing Center. He did not think that anyone would show up, since it was the last day of the conference and he was right.

While sitting there for several hours, a recruiter from WISCONSIN STATE UNIVERSITY IN WHITEWATER ,WI started a conversation with me. He asked about my back ground and experience in a large testing center. He talked about the present testing center at Whitewater, where they had just relocated 3 PHD’s that had no experience running a Testing Center.

Much to my surprise, he offered me the job of Director of Testing. It was a great opportunity for me, since I would be lots closer to my friends and my former residence in the Crystal Lake and Elgin, Illinois area. It also paid lots more and I had much of the summer off. Hard not to accept his offer (smile).

At the time Golden Retrievers were just becoming popular in the OBEDIENCE ring, and COCKER Spaniels were having lots of behavioral issues, so it was a NO brainer to search for a Golden. Connie Gerstner happened to have CH. Malagold Beckwith BIG BUFF at the time, and another male that she called NUGGET. Big Buff was repeatedly beating Nugget, so she willingly sold him to me. Nugget was about 1 year of age when I purchased him. I showed him in Conformation and Obedience, and also earned a CDX and WC with him. His registered name was CH. Malagold’s Golden Nugget CDX  WC.  Both BIG BUFF and NUGGET are listed on the K9data website for anyone interested in ancient History (ha ha).
