The next chapter
There was then a long period while going to College and Graduate school that I did not compete much in any dog activities. I actually had not even thought about College, but lots of my friends enrolled at Northern Illinois University, so I followed them there. They all either found boy friends there or quit and married their High School Boy Friends and soon I was soon the only one to stay and graduate.
At that time the State of Illinois paid all expenses, if you taught for 2 years. That being said, I moved to Elgin, Illinois and taught Biology for 2 years.
I decided that High School teaching was NOT my Forte, so I went to Bloomington, Illinois (Illinois State University) and worked as a Resident Assistant to cover my tuition and receive my Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling with an emphases in Academic Testing.
After graduating from Illinois State, I saw that Princeton, NJ (home of the ACT and SAT entrance Testing) were interviewing for a Director of their School System Testing program. I was intrigued with the job and contacted them. They said they had interviewed over 100 applicants but liked my credentials and were willing to fly me there for an interview. Off I went to NJ.
I was very surprised when I returned to Illinois and they called and offered me the job. I asked them to give me a day to think about it. I then turned the job down, since I had NO connections on the East Coast and decided I would prefer to stay in the Midwest. Probably one of the best life choices that I ever made.
